What’s an IELTS Score Calculator?

An IELTS Score Calculator is one such fantastic online tool that foretells what you will score on the IELTS test. It is a cheat sheet for your English skill, which is broken down into four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. You plug in what you think you’d get and it tells you your final score, so you know where you’re at and what you need to work on.

Why Use an IELTS Score Calculator?

  • Guess your score before you receive the actual one.
  • Identify sections of the test on which you must study more.
  • Establish goals similar to those of colleges or schools you wish to enter.
  • See how the test works so you know what to expect.
  • Feel more chill about the test because you have an idea of what you'll get.

Various IELTS Score Calculators

There are a bunch of these calculators out there, each doing its own thing. Some are like, super focused on Listening and Reading, turning your right answers into a band score. Others try to guess Writing and Speaking scores based on how you did on practice tests.

  • Listening Score Calculator - It translates the number you got correct out of 40 to a band score.
  • Reading Score Calculator - It's exactly like the Listening one but does a little tweak for the different forms of the test.
  • Writing Score Estimator - It estimates a band depending on how well you write.
  • Speaking Score Predictor - It attempts to predict based on how well you spoke in practice.
  • Overall Band Calculator - It summation all of your section marks into one total score.

How an IELTS Score Calculator Works

It’s pretty simple. You tell it how many you got right or what band you think you’ll get, and it uses the IELTS math to give you an overall score. It averages everything and then makes it a half-band if needed. It’s like a guessing game with math!

Chief Items in an IELTS Score Calculator

  • Converts your raw scores to band scores quite well.
  • Supports both the school-y (Academic) and work-y (General Training) tests.
  • Shows you how you did on each part.
  • Gives you answers right away so you don’t have to wait.
  • Looks nice on your phone so you can use it anywhere.

How to Use an IELTS Score Calculator?

  1. Enter the number you answered correctly in Listening (out of 40).
  2. Write in your Reading score (out of 40, and mark if it's Academic or not).
  3. Make a guess about your Writing band score based on what you were given back.
  4. Put in what you think your Speaking band score is from practice.
  5. Hit "Calculate" to see your total band score and how you did in each part.

Why Using an IELTS Score Calculator is the Bomb

  1. You get a pretty good idea of what bands you're going to have.
  2. You can decide where to spend extra time studying.
  3. It makes you less stressed because you kinda know what to expect.
  4. You can compare your guess to what you actually need for college or moving.

Variables Explained

L (Listening Band)

How well you can listen. It's like 0-9. More right answers means more band. Like, 30-32 right answers is usually a 7.0.

R (Reading Band)

Another 0-9 deal. Reading's score can be slightly different for the more difficult school version (Academic) than the less difficult work one (General Training). For instance, 27-29 correct answers may be a 6.5 for school material but a 7.0 for work material.

W (Writing Band)

How well you write, also 0-9. It's a trickier one in that it is how well you wrote, rather than just right answers. It takes into account how you've put sentences together and all the rest.

S (Speaking Band)

This is how well you spoke English, 0-9. It's connected with how easy to hear you are, your grammar, and the amount you spoke.

Important Notes

•

This device gives you an approximate figure based on IELTS's standard means of scoring.

•

Remember, real scores will be different because of the person proctoring your test or if the test is slightly more difficult. Use this as a guide, not the real deal.

•

Don't bet your life on this, it's for fun and to help you.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s all about how you do in the four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. More right answers in Listening and Reading, better writing and speaking skills, and doing well in the speaking test can boost your score.
For Listening and Reading, it’s pretty much spot on if you put in the right raw scores. Writing and Speaking are a bit tricky because they’re subjective, but it’s still a good planer.
Yeah, most calculators do both. Just let it know which test you're taking for Reading because the scores are a teensy bit different.
It depends on what you’re using it for. Schools usually want like 6.5-7, but moving to another country might just need a 6.0. Shoot for a bit higher to be safe.
They’re judged by people, so it’s more about how well you did than just getting answers right. So without the real deal feedback, it’s a bit like throwing darts blindfolded.
The overall score is similar to a team average. If one part is really low, it'll drag down the entire score. So you want to be really good at all parts.
Use it after each practice test to check how you're progressing. Weekly or fortnightly is probably fine.
If it's from a decent school website, it's probably fine. Just ensure it agrees with the actual IELTS scores and use it with some other practice materials.
Raw scores are like how many you got right (e.g., 30/40). Band scores are like a rating from 0-9 that tells how good you are. The calculator changes raw scores to bands for Listening and Reading and averages everything for the big score.
