CR2 to JPG Converter

Canon RAW files do not open in a lot of ordinary programs, and you just want a picture you can share or look at. This converter reads the full-size JPEG preview that the camera stored inside each CR2 file and saves it as a normal picture on your own device. It is quick, but it is not a RAW developer.

Free to use on any site. Paste the code where you want the tool to appear. It runs inside the page; visitors' files are processed in their own browser and are not uploaded.

WordPress and most site builders have a "Custom HTML" block where this code can be pasted. The embed keeps a small link back to CalcMaster.

How to convert CR2 to JPG

  1. Add your CR2 files by dropping them, clicking the drop zone or pasting.
  2. The output format is already set to JPG. Adjust quality or size if you need to.
  3. Press Convert and compare the original and new size for each file.
  4. Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

When to convert, and when not to

  • You want to review or share shots from a Canon camera without installing RAW software.
  • A form, a client or a website needs an ordinary JPG of a photo you only have as CR2.
  • You are sorting a card of pictures and want quick viewable copies first.
  • Do not use it when you need to adjust exposure, white balance or noise from the sensor data; use dedicated RAW software for that.

What changes

  • The tool extracts the JPEG preview that the camera embedded in the CR2 and does not process the sensor data.
  • The look is the one the camera produced, with its in-camera settings already applied.
  • The preview can be smaller than the full sensor picture, depending on the camera and its settings.
  • Converting to JPG decodes and saves the preview again, so adjust the quality slider to taste.
  • If the file has a rotation tag, it is applied so the picture stands upright; if no preview is found, the tool says so.

What is inside a CR2 file

CR2 is the RAW file type used by many Canon cameras. Its main content is the sensor data, which has to be processed before it becomes a normal picture. Alongside it, the camera stores a ready-made JPEG preview so that the camera screen and basic viewers can show the picture quickly.

That preview is what this tool uses. It is a real photograph produced by the camera with its own picture settings, so it looks the way the shot looked on the camera screen, which is often exactly what you want for sharing.

What this is not

Developing RAW data means choosing white balance, exposure, colour and noise settings from the original sensor information. This converter does not do that. It does not open the sensor data at all, so you cannot recover blown highlights or lift shadows beyond what the preview already holds.

If you need that flexibility, use proper RAW software and keep the CR2 originals. Think of this page as the fast route to a viewable picture, not as a replacement for a RAW workflow.

Working through a whole card

CR2 files are large, so give the browser time. Add a handful, press Convert, and download the results one by one or as a ZIP. Use the resize option if the previews are bigger than you need. If a file reports that no preview was found, it may be damaged or not a camera file at all.

Quality setting for the saved copy

The preview is already a JPEG, so saving it again as JPG adds one more compression step. A high quality setting keeps that extra loss very small, which is usually the right choice for pictures you plan to keep. A lower setting makes smaller files for e-mail and chat, at the cost of some fine detail.

Privacy: your files stay on your device

  • The tool decodes, resizes and encodes your pictures with your browser. The files are never sent to a server.
  • To check it yourself: open the browser developer tools (F12), open the Network tab, convert a file, and look for any request that carries your image. You will see none.

Frequently asked questions

Does this develop my RAW data?

No. It reads the JPEG preview stored inside the CR2 and saves that.

Why is the result smaller than my camera's full resolution?

The embedded preview can be smaller than the sensor picture. It depends on the camera and its settings.

Can I change exposure or white balance here?

No. Use RAW software on the original file for those adjustments.

Will the picture be rotated correctly?

Yes. The rotation stored in the file is applied before saving.

What if the tool says no preview was found?

The file may be damaged or not a camera RAW file. Try another file or check it in your camera software.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in this browser tab on your own device.
