Image Converter
Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, ICO, TIFF, TGA and PPM, and open more than 45 file types such as HEIC, TIFF, PSD, EXR, camera RAW previews and older formats. Everything happens in this browser tab, so nothing is uploaded.
How to convert images
- Drop your images on the drop zone, click it to pick files, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- Choose the output format on the right. Set quality for JPG, WebP and AVIF, and resize if you need smaller pixels.
- Press Convert. Each file shows its new size next to the original.
- Download a single file, or press Download all to get a ZIP.
Which format should I choose?
| You have | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A photo for a web page | WebP or AVIF, JPG as the fallback | Both are designed for smaller photos than JPG. Convert one of your own photos and compare the sizes. |
| A logo or flat graphic | PNG or WebP, or keep the SVG | Sharp edges and transparency survive; JPG adds blur around hard edges. |
| A screenshot | PNG | Text stays sharp because PNG is lossless. |
| An icon for a website | ICO plus PNG | Browsers and Windows read ICO files with several sizes inside. |
| A photo for e-mail or print | JPG | Every program and printer opens it. |
| An iPhone photo that will not open | JPG (from HEIC) | HEIC is not opened by many Windows programs and upload forms. |
| A camera RAW file (CR2, NEF, RAF, RW2 and others) | JPG | The tool converts the full-size preview JPEG stored inside the file. It does not develop the RAW data. |
| A TIFF, PSD or EXR from a design or 3D tool | PNG or JPG | You get the TIFF's first page, the PSD's flattened picture, or a tone-mapped 8-bit version of the EXR. |

File sizes depend on the picture and the settings. Convert your own files and compare the sizes the tool shows rather than relying on general claims.
What changes during conversion
- Converting to JPG, BMP or PPM removes transparency. Pick a background colour for the transparent parts.
- Photo metadata (EXIF, location, colour profile) is not carried into the converted file.
Privacy: your files stay on your device
- The tool decodes, resizes and encodes your pictures with your browser. The files are never sent to a server.
- To check it yourself: open the browser developer tools (F12), open the Network tab, convert a file, and look for any request that carries your image. You will see none.
- Pictures are kept in the memory of this tab only. Closing or reloading the tab removes them.
Limits and troubleshooting
- Animated GIF, WebP, AVIF and MNG files convert as a single still image (the first frame).
- Converting to JPG, BMP or PPM removes transparency. Pick a background colour for the transparent parts.
- Photo metadata (EXIF, location, colour profile) is not carried into the converted file.
- AVIF output works only in browsers that can encode it. The AVIF button is disabled when yours cannot.
- Very large images can fail on phones because browsers limit canvas memory. Use the resize option or convert fewer files at once.
- Support for HEIC, JPEG 2000, TIFF, PSD, EXR and the other less common types is loaded only when you add such a file, so that first conversion takes a little longer.
- Camera RAW files: only the JPEG preview stored inside the file is converted. White balance, exposure and the full sensor data are not developed here.
- PSD files give their flattened picture, TIFF files their first page, and EXR, HDR and PFM pictures are tone-mapped to 8-bit.
- PES embroidery files are drawn as stitch lines with approximate thread colours.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser. You can confirm in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.
Which file types can I open?
More than 45, from the web formats and HEIC to TIFF, PSD, EXR, camera RAW previews and older formats such as TGA, PCX and XPM. The table above lists them all.
Which formats can I save to?
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF (where your browser can write it), BMP, ICO, GIF, TIFF, TGA and PPM.
Can it convert RAW photos?
It converts the JPEG preview that most cameras store inside the RAW file, which is often large and looks like the camera's own picture. It does not develop the RAW data, so you cannot change white balance or exposure here.
Why is my WebP bigger than my JPG?
WebP is not always smaller. A picture that is already heavily compressed as JPG, or a very noisy photo, can come out larger. Convert it, compare the two sizes shown in the list, and keep the smaller one.
What quality should I use?
Start around the middle-to-high range and lower it until you can see a difference on your own picture. The right value depends on the image, so check the preview rather than trusting a fixed number.
Does converting PNG to JPG lose transparency?
Yes. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).
Why does my iPhone photo not open?
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which many Windows programs and websites do not read. Convert it to JPG here and the result opens everywhere.
