DNG to JPG Converter

A DNG file came from a phone, a camera or an editor, and the program you have will not open it. This converter reads the preview picture stored inside the DNG and saves it as an ordinary JPG on your own device. It is a fast way to see and share the picture, not a replacement for RAW editing.

Free to use on any site. Paste the code where you want the tool to appear. It runs inside the page; visitors' files are processed in their own browser and are not uploaded.

WordPress and most site builders have a "Custom HTML" block where this code can be pasted. The embed keeps a small link back to CalcMaster.

How to convert DNG to JPG

  1. Add your DNG files by dropping them, clicking the drop zone or pasting.
  2. The output format is already set to JPG. Adjust quality or size if you need to.
  3. Press Convert and compare the original and new size for each file.
  4. Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

When to convert, and when not to

  • You want a quick viewable copy of a DNG for e-mail, chat or a web page.
  • You are checking which DNG files are worth editing before opening them in RAW software.
  • A form or print service only accepts JPG.
  • Do not rely on the result if you need full-size output or sensor-level edits; those need the DNG opened in RAW software.

What changes

  • The tool pulls out the preview JPEG stored in the DNG and does not process the sensor data.
  • DNG previews are often smaller than the full picture, because they are made for fast viewing.
  • The look is whatever was applied when the preview was created, which may differ from your final edit.
  • The preview is decoded and saved again as JPG, so the quality slider matters.
  • A rotation tag in the file is applied, and if no usable preview exists the tool tells you.

What a DNG is

DNG stands for Digital Negative. It is an openly documented RAW file format created by Adobe, and it is used by some cameras and phone apps and often produced when people convert other RAW files for long-term storage. Like other RAW files, its main content is unprocessed sensor information.

Many DNG files also carry one or more embedded preview pictures, so that file browsers and catalogue programs can show a thumbnail or a larger image without processing the raw data. That embedded picture is what this converter reads.

Why the preview can be small

A program that writes a DNG decides how large the embedded preview will be. Some write a full-size picture, others write only a modest one meant for thumbnails and quick views. The tool simply takes the largest usable preview it finds, so the output size varies from file to file.

If the converted picture is smaller than you hoped, that is a limit of the preview and not of the converter. Opening the DNG itself in RAW software is the way to get a full-resolution result.

Good uses for this page

It works well for triage and sharing. Convert a set, look through the previews, and decide which pictures deserve proper editing. Use the resize option if you want smaller files for sending, and download the set as a ZIP. Your DNG originals are never altered, because the tool only reads them.

Checking the result before you share it

Open one converted picture at full size before sending a whole set. If the preview in a particular DNG was written small, you will see it straight away, and you can decide whether that is acceptable or whether the picture needs to be developed from the DNG itself. A moment of checking saves sending low-resolution copies by mistake.

Privacy: your files stay on your device

  • The tool decodes, resizes and encodes your pictures with your browser. The files are never sent to a server.
  • To check it yourself: open the browser developer tools (F12), open the Network tab, convert a file, and look for any request that carries your image. You will see none.

Frequently asked questions

Is a DNG the same as a JPG?

No. It is a RAW format that holds unprocessed sensor data, often with a small preview picture added.

Why is my result small?

The preview stored in the DNG may be small by design. The tool uses the largest one it finds.

Can I edit white balance here?

No. This tool does not develop RAW data. Use RAW editing software for that.

Will it work for DNG files from a phone?

It works if the file contains an embedded JPEG preview. If it does not, the tool reports that none was found.

Does converting change my DNG?

No. The original file is only read, never modified.

Is the picture uploaded?

No. The work happens in this browser tab.
