JPG to PNG Converter
You have a JPG and something asks for PNG: an editor, a print shop template, a design tool or a form that rejects JPG. This converter writes a PNG from your JPG on your own device. Before you start, read what the change can and cannot do for the picture, because many people expect more from it than PNG can give.
Embed this tool on your websiteShow code
Free to use on any site. Paste the code where you want the tool to appear. It runs inside the page; visitors' files are processed in their own browser and are not uploaded.
WordPress and most site builders have a "Custom HTML" block where this code can be pasted. The embed keeps a small link back to CalcMaster.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- Add your JPG files by dropping them, clicking the drop zone or pasting.
- The output format is already set to PNG. Adjust quality or size if you need to.
- Press Convert and compare the original and new size for each file.
- Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.
When to convert, and when not to
- A program or upload field insists on PNG and refuses JPG.
- You plan to edit and save the image many times and want to stop adding fresh JPG compression each time.
- You need a transparent canvas later and want to start from a PNG file.
- Do not convert just to improve quality: the detail a JPG already lost does not come back.
What changes
- The pixels are copied into a lossless container, so no new quality is lost from this step.
- Blocky or fuzzy areas caused by the original JPG compression stay exactly as they are.
- Photo metadata such as camera details and location is not written to the PNG.
- Phone photos are turned the right way up using their rotation tag before saving.
- There is no quality slider, because PNG does not use one.
Why JPG to PNG will not restore detail
JPG throws away fine detail when it is saved. It does this in small blocks, and the information it discards is gone for good. A PNG is a lossless container: it stores exactly the pixels it is given. When you convert, the PNG stores the already-damaged pixels perfectly, which means the file is faithful to the JPG, not to the original scene.
That is why a JPG-to-PNG file can look identical to the source and still be much larger. You are paying for an exact copy of something that was already compressed. If your goal is a smaller file for a web page, the opposite direction, to WebP, is usually worth testing instead.
When a PNG copy is still useful
There are honest reasons to make one. Some design and layout tools handle PNG more smoothly than JPG. Some forms only list PNG as an accepted type. And if you are going to retouch the picture repeatedly, saving each round as PNG avoids stacking another lossy pass on top of the last one.
A PNG made this way will not have transparent areas, since a JPG has no transparency to carry across. If you want to cut out a background, you will need an editor for that step. This tool only changes the file format and, if you ask, the pixel size.
Resizing while you convert
The options panel can shrink the image by a percentage or to a maximum width and height, keeping the proportions. Reducing the pixel size is the most reliable way to make a PNG smaller, because PNG cannot trade quality for size. Convert one test file first and compare the sizes shown next to each file before you run a whole batch.
Before you press Convert
Open the JPG at full size and decide what you actually need from the PNG. If the answer is only a different file type, you are ready. If the answer is better sharpness, cleaner colour or a transparent background, a format change alone will not deliver it and an editor is the right next step.
Privacy: your files stay on your device
- The tool decodes, resizes and encodes your pictures with your browser. The files are never sent to a server.
- To check it yourself: open the browser developer tools (F12), open the Network tab, convert a file, and look for any request that carries your image. You will see none.
Frequently asked questions
Will my JPG look better as a PNG?
No. The PNG keeps the picture as it is. Compression flaws already in the JPG will still be visible.
Why is the PNG bigger than my JPG?
PNG stores pixels without throwing anything away, so photos usually take more space than in JPG. Compare the two sizes on your own file.
Does the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque.
Is the picture sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser tab and the file never leaves your device.
Can I convert many JPG files at once?
Yes. Add them all, press Convert, and download each result or a ZIP of everything.
Can I convert a JPG to PNG and back without loss?
Going to PNG loses nothing new, but converting back to JPG compresses again, so the second step adds fresh quality loss.
