PSD to PNG Converter
You want a clean PNG from a Photoshop file, perhaps a logo or an icon with a see-through background, but you have no editing software at hand. This converter reads the flattened picture stored in the PSD and writes it as a PNG in your browser. Layers stay behind, so the result is a single flat image.
How to convert PSD to PNG
- Add your PSD files by dropping them, clicking the drop zone or pasting.
- The output format is already set to PNG. Adjust quality or size if you need to.
- Press Convert and compare the original and new size for each file.
- Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.
When to convert, and when not to
- You need a lossless, web-ready copy of artwork saved as PSD.
- The design has a transparent background that you want to keep.
- A site or app accepts PNG but not PSD.
- Do not use it when you still need to edit layers or text; that work stays in the PSD.
What changes
- Only the flattened composite is read. Layers, text and effects are not separate in the PNG.
- Transparent areas in the preview are kept as transparency.
- A PSD saved without a flattened preview shows a clear error instead of an image.
- PNG is lossless, so no new quality is lost, and there is no quality slider.
- Colour profiles and metadata are not written to the file.
Why PNG suits a flattened PSD
Artwork made in Photoshop often has hard edges, flat colour and see-through regions, which is where PNG does well. It stores pixels exactly and supports transparency, so a logo, a button or a sticker design saved as PSD can become a PNG that drops straight onto a web page or into a presentation.
For photographic PSD files PNG is accurate but not small. If the picture is a photo for a web page, a JPG or WebP will usually be lighter.
Checking the transparent areas
To confirm that the background really is transparent, open the PNG in a viewer that shows a checkerboard, or place it on a coloured page. If you see a solid white or black rectangle, the preview inside the PSD was flattened onto that colour when the file was saved, and the converter can only keep what the preview contains.
When the converter shows a preview error
A PSD can be saved without its flattened picture if Maximize Compatibility is off in the program that wrote it. The converter then reports that there is no preview to read. Ask the sender to save it again with the option on, or to export a PNG directly.
Resize and export tips
Use the percent or maximum-size option to reduce a very large canvas before saving. Artwork designed at a large size can produce a PNG far bigger than a web page needs. After resizing, check the edges of text and thin lines at full size to make sure they still look crisp.
Using the PNG in other tools
A PNG from a PSD slots into web pages, presentations, documents and many design and slide tools without any plug-in. Because it is lossless, you can place it on different backgrounds and scale it down without fresh compression marks. If you plan to enlarge it, remember that a flat PNG cannot invent detail, so ask for the PSD at the larger size instead. For icons, make sure the canvas already has the proportions you need, because this tool changes only the format and, if you choose, the pixel size.
Privacy: your files stay on your device
- The tool decodes, resizes and encodes your pictures with your browser. The files are never sent to a server.
- To check it yourself: open the browser developer tools (F12), open the Network tab, convert a file, and look for any request that carries your image. You will see none.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the layers after converting?
No. The PNG is one flat picture. Keep the PSD for any editing.
Does it keep the transparent background?
Yes, when the flattened preview inside the PSD is transparent.
Why can it not read my PSD?
The file was likely saved without a flattened preview. Ask for it to be saved with Maximize Compatibility on, or for a PNG export.
Is PNG better than JPG for PSD files?
For graphics with sharp edges or transparency, yes. For photos, a JPG is usually lighter.
Will fonts and effects look right?
You get the stored preview, so they look as they did when the PSD was saved, but they are no longer editable.
Can I resize the PNG while converting?
Yes. Use the percent or maximum-size option; the proportions are kept.
